about

her+ perspective is a public participation project that focuses on tackling gender inequality in the building industry.

Initiated in 2019, it began as an exhibition that sought to acknowledge the positive contributions of women+ to the architectural profession, with an emphasis on the Global South. An 'incomplete' timeline of notable women+ was generated through submissions from the local community in Cape Town.

Today, that original timeline has grown into an internationally accessible digital archive, which aims to challenge the under-representation, and often, misrepresentation of women+ in the wider construction field.

Additionally, we curate events and exhibitions throughout the year that seek to engage the public in dialogue regarding our current status quo and act as a catalyst to recover her+ stories.

Our future intention is to register as an NPO to continue our work and inspire the next generation of built environment professionals.

what does her+ mean?

The '+' at the end of 'her' signifies our values of inclusivity and growth. We chose to use women+ to include marginalised identities.
